Meals at Magashi focus on sustainability, featuring healthy, flavorful recipes that celebrate Rwanda’s indigenous ingredients and fresh local produce. Enjoy the signature 'Rolex' breakfast wrap and a travelling Kugisha dinner, accompanied by traditional stories and songs.

Akagera’s picturesque savannah features plains, woodlands, lakes, and mountains, with Wilderness Magashi as the park’s only private concession. Home to hippos, rhinos, lions, and sitatunga, guests can engage in conservation efforts, including tracking lions and leopards with identikits.

After-dark game viewing with filtered spotlights reveals nocturnal animals such as spotted hyenas, civets, genets, mongooses, owls, and nightjars – and possibly even a leopard. With both day and night game drives, exploring at Wilderness Magashi offers an extraordinary experience.

Boating in swamp cruisers, featuring 'double-decker' seating for elevated game viewing, offers an excellent opportunity to observe water birds and other aquatic animals around the stunning Lake Rwanyakazinga.

Fishing is available year-round on a catch-and-release basis, with the camp providing a small selection of basic rods and reels.

After an early breakfast, embark on an exciting birdwatching adventure. Akagera National Park is renowned for its birdlife, with over 500 species recorded, rivaling even Kruger National Park. Notable rarities include the papyrus gonolek, red-faced barbet, and swamp flycatcher.

Wilderness Magashi is 100% solar-powered and single-use plastic-free. We support sustainability through the Children in the Wilderness (CITW) Eco-Club at Akayange Primary School. A third of our staff is hired locally, with training for career growth. We also support local cooperatives that create lunch bags, kitenge beeswax wraps, candles, and carved wooden shoebills for the camp.
