The 6 room tents are pitched on wooden platforms and are comfortable and spacious, including an indoor and outdoor bathroom. A generous deck outside the room allows for safe sleep-outs under the stars, and each has a “Wolwedans Chiller”, a small water-filled silo to cool off in.
Family Suite
At the family suite, a short walk away from the main camp, there are two en-suite bedrooms, each with a children's sala with single beds, sharing the bathroom with adults. The suite has a main lounge & spacious deck, with two ‘Wolwedans Chillers’ outside the bedrooms. Meals are enjoyed at main Dune Camp, but the suite has a private guide & vehicle.
Mountain View Suite
The Mountain View Suite is built over 200 square metres of deck above the dunes. It is exclusive, romantic and utterly gorgeous, with ample space to relax while staring down the valley to the distant mountains –one of the most magnificent views in the reserve. The Suite is located within walking distance from Desert Lodge, butfeels as if you are in your own private universe. The suite offers one en-suite bedroom (up to 2 adults), a private lounge, dining area and fire-pit, plus an outside bathroom, a sleep-out deck and a plunge pool. The main veranda has a ”star-gaze” bed, which provides a wonderful sleep-out venue during summer.
Wine & Dine
All meals at Wolwedans are a lavish, but unpretentious affair. They always exude a sense of occasion with elegant table settings, candlelight and exuberant menu announcements in the local Nama language. Wolwedans has a reputation for serving the best meals on the Namibian safari circuit and we are more than happy to indulge you with our innovative, wholesome and sophisticated ‘bush-cuisine’, prepared lovingly with homegrown organic fresh produce (we have our own organic gardens at Wolwedans) and paired with excellent local and South African wines.
Private Dining
By prior arrangement and at a nominal fee, we are able to create lasting desert memories by serving bush dinners, out in nature, or champagne laced breakfasts in a private natural setting for honeymooners and wedding couples.
Scenic Drives - Morning and Afternoon
Morning or afternoon drives cover a distance of about 40-50 km and take 3-4 hours. Afternoon scenic drives are often combined with sundowners in the dunes.
Horse Riding
Experience this magnificent landscape and its wild inhabitants from horseback. Other than walking, there can hardly be a better way to get up close and personal with nature. Your first horseback ride is included in your stay and any additional rides are a premium activity for which packages can be tailored to suit each guest's riding ability.
Scenic Drive - A day trip
A day drive is a truly memorable excursion. Covering a distance of about 120 km it offers the highest degree of diversity in landscape, as well as a better understanding of the dimensions of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. A delicious picnic lunch is served in the middle of nowhere! The day drive departs after breakfast and returns approximately one hour before sunset.
Walking Safaris
TokTokkie Trails is a separate concession on the reserve and offers guided desert walking trails in the southeast of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. The trail is two nights long and can easily be integrated into a visit to Wolwedans (subsequently becoming a four-night stay). Follow in the footsteps of the Bushmen (San), who have been traversing the expansive sand and gravel plains for centuries. Enjoy your picnic lunch in the shade of ancient camel-thorn trees that line the dry riverbeds. Two course dinners and drinks are served at camp after sunset. Hot bucket-showers and comfortable camp beds under the starry skies will provide comfortable relief after a day's walk. Additional cost applies.
Hot Air Ballooning
Soaring silently over this ancient desert reveals its true magnificence, allowing the eye to wander and the soul to fly… A special attraction at NamibRand Nature Reserve is hot-air ballooning. This seasonal activity allows you to float over the dune belts and never-ending plains of the Namib Desert; providing unforgettable and breathtaking 360-degree vistas. From the best viewpoint imaginable, you admire the stark beauty of the Namib for about an hour, before celebrating this once in a lifetime experience with a champagne breakfast at the landing spot. Additional cost applies.
Scenic Flights
During your next stay at Wolwedans, indulge in a breathtaking scenic flight over the Namib Desert dunes and view the mysterious Atlantic coastline from the air. Experience first-hand the endless horizons that are synonymous with Namibia. Based on the length of your stay, you could have your pick of four alternate routes. Additional cost applies.
Wellness
To enhance wellbeing during your stay, Wolwedans offers you the services of a seasonal massage therapist specializing in Swedish massage, Marula Oil Massage, Indian Head Massage and Foot Massage.
